Chopper Crashes in Siaya After Dropping Raila Odinga During Tour with President Uhuru

An aircraft that dropped former Prime Minister, Honourable Raila Odinga, has crashed in Siaya sub-county at Akudho Primary School, Usenge village, Onyonyo sub-location in South Gem location.

The crash occurred on Sunday, May 20th at 4.30 PM. The accident was reported by Captain Julius Mwambanga of Panel Air.

According to Julius, he had just dropped former Prime Minister Raila Odinga who had accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta on official visit of commissioning the Wagai-Akala road in Kisumu county.

Julius reported that the aircraft crashed when he was only 5 meters off the ground after which the aircraft overturned on the left.

The Captain was not injured but Peter Mbeka, one of the three passengers, complained of chest pains although he was reported to be in stable condition.

A short statement signed by Denis Onyango from Raila Odinga’s office identified the chopper at as a Bell 407 Registration 5Y-PSM.

The statement said that the chopper had just landed and what attempting to fly in order to create space for other choppers when the accident occurred.

“There were no fatalities as the pilot and four others on board escaped with minor injuries”, the statement said.

“Mr. Odinga successfully continued with his scheduled activities with the President”, the statement added.
