Raila Odinga Inspects Construction Work at Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium at Mamboleo and Promises More Funding

According to former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, the new multi-million Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium under constructed at Mamboleo in Kisumu needs critical structural adjustments.

Raila was speaking during an on-site visit to inspect the construction of the stadium and to assess progress. He said that because of adjustments necessary to fill gaps in the construction, he will talk to President Uhuru Kenyatta next week to increase funding for the project to carter for modifications in the stadium’s design.

Raila, who heads the BBi initiative together with Uhuru Kenyatta, said that despite design changes proposed in the construction, the stadium’s inauguration schedule still stands at April 2021.

He said that the stadium should be used by the youth with ambition in sports as a breeding ground for talent development.

The 12,000 seater stadium is under constructed at a tune of Ksh 350 million with its main playing field and 8-lane running track designed to international standards.

President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned the state-of-the-art stadium last month when he visited the lakeside city to popularize the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) together with Raila Odinga.

Raila said that there is a lot of untapped talent in Kenya and regrated that Kenyan professional players do not feature in other international leagues because talent remains untapped.
