Andersson-Ofafa Estates to be Demolished: 185 Housing Units to be Constructed in a Major Infrastructure Boost for Kisumu City

The lakeside city of Kisumu is on the move towards a whole new reality of infrastructural developments characterized by better housing and access roads.

On Wednesday, 10th December 2020, the County Government of Kisumu, in collaboration with the Local Authority Pension Trust (Laptrust) and County Pension Fund (CPF), unveiled the Anderson-Ofafa affordable housing project.

The initiative effectively paves the way for the construction of more than 1,000 housing units at Anderson estate.           

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Nation Media Group (NMG) CEO, Stephen Gitagama, showed optimism that the project will go along way in meeting the need of affordable housing in the Kisumu city.                                 

During the event, Kisumu Governor, Professor Anyan’g Nyong’o, said that the unveiling of the Anderson-Ofafa housing project is just the beginning of things to come.  

The Governor warned that Kisumu city is on a developmental path and that anybody who had grabbed public land is on notice because the county needed land for expansion.              

The Anderson housing project is expected to start in April 2021and will be complete in 48 months. Laptrust-CPF CEO, Hosea Kili, said that it’s the first project of it’s kind outside the capital city of Nairobi which promises job opportunities to locals during construction. 

Cheques worth 1.5million  were also issued to the 107 families vacating Anderson estate to pave way for the construction.

The project comprises of 108 one bed-roomed units, 717 two-bedroomed units alongside 92 shops for small-scale traders. The construction is taking place on a 7 acre piece of land and is expected to occupy 60% of the land.
